Milestones: Ringing the Bell
Hudson’s last day of radiation at MD Anderson was 2 years ago today. A memory that makes my heart swell and break at the same time. He did so well through all 30 rounds. He loved life despite what he was enduring each day with pokes, sedation, radiation, fatigue, MRIs, checkups & way too much time in a hospital away from home/friends/school.
The cruelty of this milestone moment was not lost on us, as Hudson rang a bell that means “cancer free” for many patients. We watched with pride and pits in our stomach, knowing our perfect boy still had a DIPG monster inside of him that would eventually take his life.
I look at these memories every day, and some are harder than others. This one is up there. What I wouldn’t do to be back in this moment, celebrating with my joyful, seemingly healthy, brave & beautiful boy.
